40,000 More Voters!

Why North Carolina and Why Mecklenburg County?

Did you know there is a 17-point gap in voter registration between white voters and voters of color in NC?

Closing this gap will help NC elect more representative leaders despite gerrymandering and voter suppression tactics. And the people best equipped to close that gap are the established organizations active in the Black, Latinx, AAPI, Indigenous and youth communities.

MWBB is collaborating with All In for North Carolina (AINC) and working with organizations in North Carolina that have concrete plans, based on their work in the last two election cycles, to change this reality and expand the electorate, especially among under-represented voters of color and young people - people who move frequently and are less likely to stay on the voter rolls. Our geographic focus is on the Mecklenburg metropolitan area, home to Charlotte, where 80,000 citizens of color are unregistered to vote. Our partners’ goal is to register over 40,000 voters to vote for the first time or ensure their registration is up to date… if they have enough resources early. Registering voters is a time- and labor-intensive process that has to be done by groups that know how to do it, and they have to have time to maximize their efficiency place by place all over the county.

Early money is critical for building the infrastructure needed to register, engage, and turn out voters year-round. All funds for this March 6th Event qualify for charitable tax deductions. Funds will be donated through Imagine NC First, a 501(c)(3) organization whose Mecklenburg County voter registration grantees include:
